Location
The Lake Tekapo Motels & Holiday Park and the Lakefront Lodge Backpackers is located at 2 Lakeside Drive off State Highway 8. Only one minutes drive from the Lake Tekapo Village and only a short 10 minute walk. It is part of the high country Mackenzie Basin.
Lake Tekapo is located halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown. The drive from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo is an easy drive; mostly flat with a hilly and winding section from Geraldine to Fairlie. This covers only about 30 minutes of the trip. The section of road from the Mt Dobson turn off through Burkes Pass (check AA road conditions in June/July/August) is also a bit hilly and winding but this is only for about 15 minutes drive. So take your time, enjoy the scenery and we will see you when you get here.
If you are driving during the day through Burkes Pass then give yourself time to stop, grab a coffee from the retro caravan and check out the amazing arts & crafts shop there. Really cool and interesting!
From Queenstown once you have gone over the Lindis Pass (check AA road conditions in June/July/August) through Omarama and then Twizel the road is an easy drive. Stop at Lake Pukaki and if it is a clear day you will see Mt Cook at the end of the lake. There is a really good information center at Lake Pukaki.
